nbit.chat uses RSA encryption for text and files with keys generated entirely in your browser via the Web Crypto API. Your private key never leaves your device unless you explicitly share it.
Voice calls use WebRTC DTLS-SRTP, a different browser-standard encryption layer for real-time media. There are no backdoors, no recovery mechanisms, and no way for us to access your plaintext messages or files.

How does encryption work?
Text messages and files use RSA room keys generated directly in your browser, with per-message AES-256-GCM encryption. Voice calls use WebRTC DTLS-SRTP, the browser's built-in encryption for real-time audio and video. The server relays encrypted data and signaling, but does not receive plaintext messages, files, or voice media.
What happens to my messages when I close the browser?
Messages are stored locally in your browser's storage, encrypted with your key. They are never uploaded to any server as plaintext. If you clear your browser data, your chat history is permanently gone - by design for maximum privacy.
